The fourth Living Lake Symposium has the theme “measure to manage” and will present an overview of the state of the Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere based on the monitoring currently underway, along with details of a range of restoration initiatives and research.

Programme highlights include:
Day 1, Thursday 7 November
8am – Registrations open
9am – Welcome
Keynote address – Dr Clive Howard-Williams from NIWA
Measure to manage- A series of short presentations will be given on biophysical, cultural, social and economic aspects of the Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere catchment.
Evening (5pm- 8pm) – Symposium planting & BBQ – Ngai Tahu & DOC invite you to the Waikirikiri/Selwyn River. Come along and make a difference! Celebrate actions underway and hear about the plants and wildlife of the lake and lake margin – includes BBQ dinner.
Day 2, Friday November 8
9am – Keynote address – Andy Bruere from Environment Bay of Plenty will talk about the lessons learned from the Rotorua Lakes.
Managing what we measure – what is happening now? A series of short presentations highlighting actions already underway
Research – what investigations are currently underway to increase our understanding of this dynamic environment?
3pm – Drinks, nibbles and networking!
