There are a lot of changes coming up for farmers over the next few years. New rules will be coming into effect which require all farmers to limit the discharge of nutrients and most farms will require a Farm Environment Plan.
The (proposed) Land and Water Regional Plan (LWRP) sets out the region wide rules but there will be slightly different, and in places stricter, rules for individual catchments.
Variation 1 to the LWRP was released earlier this year, covering rules for the Selwyn Te Waihora Catchment. Submissions are now being considered. The decision version will out in a few months.
Environment Canterbury have updated their website page that gives information for farmers. There is information about the nutrients rules and also Farm Environment Plans, including a range of templates.
