Research

Research on the lake and its catchment is carried out by various agencies  -and there is still so much we don’t know! We’d love to hear from you if you have any relevant research reports or publications we could link to this page or elsewhere on our website.

Environment Canterbury Reports:

Environment Canterbury Document Library

Search on Te Waihora or Lake Ellesmere.

Lincoln University Research:

Lincoln University Research Archive

You can search the archive using key words, by topic or by author’s name. New theses and dissertations are regularly added to the LU Research Archive, several of which are relevant to Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere.

Others of interest include:

Waterways Centre for Freshwater Research

The Waterways Centre for Freshwater Management is a teaching and research centre based at both University of Canterbury and Lincoln University.  Their website provides resources to help you learn more about freshwater systems and their response to change, news about upcoming events.

The Living Lake Research and Monitoring Fund

The Waihora Ellesmere Trust has established a fund to support small scale research and monitoring which contributes in a meaningful way to the integrated monitoring of Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere and to reporting on the ‘State of the Lake’. You can download the Guidelines for Applicants here.  The WET Living Lake Fund Application Form can be downloaded here as a Word document. We don’t have a specific closing date – applications can be submitted at any time.

We are happy to accept any donations, large or small, to the fund.  All donations will be tracked and reported on and you will be able to find out about the projects we are supporting and the results of any monitoring by checking back in here from time to time.

WET is a registered charity and so any donations over $5 are tax deductible and we will provide a receipt for all donations (this can take a week or two).
