The Canterbury Water Management Strategy, launched in November 2009, is setting the direction for the future management of water in Canterbury. The vision is:
“To enable present and future generations to gain the greatest social, economic, recreational and cultural benefits from our water resources within an environmentally sustainable framework.”
The official launch of the Selwyn-Waihora Water Management Zone Committee, planned for September 19th, was cancelled due to the earthquake but the committee met in early October to begin their work. Details of the committee membership and the forthcoming meetings can be found on the Canterbury Water website.
Canterbury water notes that, “this zone committee and the others being formed around Canterbury will be the engine room of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy as well as the conduit for community engagement and discussion.”
