Brown Trout FisheryWe were delighted to welcome Trevor Isitt and Alan Strong from Fish &Game NZ to our June 2016 Trust meeting. Trevor spoke briefly about the history of F&G, and its predecessor the Acclimatisation Society.

Alan, a passionate fisherman with strong connections to the lake, spoke about a report he has recently compiled – The Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere Brown Trout Fishery – Collapse and the Short Term Recovery. Alan is keen to mobilise interested people, through F&G, to get out and help. You can download a copy of Alan’s report here.

While not necessarily endorsing all of Alan’s views, the WET Trustees and others enjoyed the discussion about the fishery, the issues, and how some of these issues might be addressed.

On a similar theme, a research paper from Trustee Brett Painter, Sustainable Water Allocation for Families, Fish and Farming: a wicked problem or a wicked solution?, published in 2009, can also be downloaded and makes interesting reading.
